In New Haven we too often find ourselves in a conversation about gun violence. The conversations about stemming the tide or ending it are centered in the violent act. The celebration of peace that takes place yearly is an opportunity to focus on peace not just as an alternative to recent acts of violence but as an entity unto itself. This past Sunday was that opportunity and I again had a chance to stop by. Here are some shots from my visit:
The crowd is encouraged to relax and do some deep breathing |
Many of the tables related to the subject of health in some way |
There were fun things to do like button making. I even made a button |
The Nation Drill Team gets ready |
The drill team takes the field and wows the crowd |
Spoken word addressing gun violence |
…and plenty of music about peace |
