I’m super excited to announce our newest contributing photographer, Lucy Gellman! This is her first official post and the rest of these words are from her:
I earned a BA in Art History & Archaeology in 2011, and an MA in Art History in 2013. While I moved to New Haven to work at the Yale University Art Gallery, I was quickly wooed by grassroots journalism, and began using photography in my work for the New Haven Independent in early 2014. In my free time, I’m an art historian, slam poet, champion of dark beers, and utter introvert.
I had the chance to hang out with some of my favorite people: Parks & Rec Deputy Director Christy Haas, who gave me a ride up to East Rock to chart the day’s pyrotechnical progress, fellow New Haven Independent reporter Tom Breen, whose commentary on films tends to set sparklers off in my brain, and the good people of New Haven, whose hope for a brighter, better, and freer America restored my own. With the U.S. Coast Guard Band playing a phenomenal set in the background, I met a few of the local patriots who make the fourth a little bit more fun, and a lot more colorful. Here is a snapshot of that night:
