Last week, I lead a photography expedition for 5th and 6th graders at Elm City College Prep. The expedition was all day, every day. We covered and did a lot! The scholars learned about leading lines, rule of thirds, symmetry, asymmetry, telling a story with a photo, and other design components. About half of our time was spent in classroom instruction and on-campus exercises. For the other half, we got out into the world to practice the newly learned techniques. We went on photowalks in Westville, Edgewood Park, Downtown, Yale, Lighthouse Point Park, and also took a guided tour at the Yale University Art Gallery. The students took some amazing photos! Here is a selection of their work, which has also been printed and is on display at the school. The future of photography looks very bright! |
