The New Haven Lighthouse Point Park Carousel was built in 1916 and is one of less than 100 still in use to this day. There once were over 10,000 carousels like this.
New Haven’s carousel is one of the largest carousels. It has a 60 foot platform with 72 hand-carved figures mounted on twenty ranks. They include horses, dragon chariots, and a camel. Paintings of New Haven Harbor steamboats, sailing ships, lighthouses, barges, and mermaids adorn the top of the carousel.
The New Haven Lighthouse Point Park Carousel Building is a very popular Connecticut wedding venue. It’s actually my favorite place to photograph weddings because it, and it’s light, is so beautiful. Check out some of my wedding work on www.chrisrandallphotos.com
