Near the end of Black History Month the Stetson library held a program on February 25th where young people and the community at large were able to learn the history behind Black History Month.
Participants of all ages were present to hear about Carter G Woodson and the origins of Black History month. Some walked away having learned that some things they believed about Black History Month were in fact myths such as why the month is in February (there is a common discussion concerning why Black History Month is given to the shortest month)
The presentation was interactive and the facilitator was able to interest the young people and maintain constant participation. Much was learned that evening.
In a part of the program that held definite interest for some of the attendees men from Omega Psi Phi performed. This proved to be a way of engaging in a conversation about college and grades.
