Hey there, New Haveners! Happy New Year! I took a few weeks off for personal reasons, but am happy to be sending my photos back out to you, little beams of light (I hope!) in what has been, at least for me, a very dark and fear-inducing political time.
One of the people who makes me grateful and proud to be in New Haven during this time is artist and architect Mohamad Hafez, who has been working with refugees personally while navigating Syria’s humanitarian crisis in his work. I was lucky enough to get a studio visit a few weeks ago, and found his work, which I first saw at City-Wide Open Studios in 2015, pretty amazing.
That’s largely because Hafez is an architect — he renders, through his dollhouse-sized models, the knowledge of destruction totally, heart-wrenchingly accessible. If you like these photos, check out his beautiful website, or learn about visiting West River Arts during a Second Saturdays visit.
