People on the Street and their Surprising Facts – Chris Randall

May 11, 2015 by Chris Randall

It was a beautiful day to be outside taking pictures, or outside doing anything really!  Here are some street portraits I took today around downtown. I asked each of the subjects for a fact about themselves which others might be surprised by. Those responses are beneath each photo.

Lotus who’s from Philly and in New Haven visiting family; surprising fact: she learned to ski this year in Aspen. Lotus was surprised that the Ivy Noodle and Educated Burgher were no longer open.
Paul was operating his pedicab; surprising fact: that he survived a 600 foot fall from East Rock in 2002.. It was a failed suicide attempt. Paul is happy about that. He thinks that God kept him around to tell bad jokes and pedal people around. Paul is also running for president as a comedian and has a website: www.paulhammerforpresident.com/
the peddicab is a pay-what-you-can model. the money Paul makes all goes to various bicycle related charities like getting bikes for kids that can’t afford them.
Asu is Turkish and French; surprising fact: Asu means wild horse in Turkish
Caroly; surprising fact: she loves to draw cartoons
Steven; surprising fact: is an aspiring performer and studies acting at ECA. his favorite role to date was playing Sir Toby Belch in Shakespeare’s Twelfh Night
Naomi (left); surprising fact: she’s climbed 30 mountains around the world, so far the highest has been 9500ft. Haviland (right); surprising fact: she used to raise chickens on a farm in Oregon
Deborah; surprising fact: she loves to sing. her favorite song to sing is There is None Like You , a gospel
Kelly; surprising fact: he wishes that he could exercise more and he used to be strong and active until becoming disabled in the Korean War where he served from 1951-1954
Emily (left); surprising fact: she can hit any note (vocally) from a piano. she also loves to ride horses. Justin (right); surprising fact: (he couldn’t think of anything so Emily provided this surprise about him) He LOVES water and takes three showers a day. He even considered jumping into the fountain on the green! Emily and Justin are also aspiring performers. They both study at PCA in Trumbull.
Justin; surprising fact: he loves to knit (mostly scarves and hats)
Travis; surprising fact: he’s introspective
Roger; surprising fact: he said he had no facts that I could write down
Johnny; surprising fact: he loves sight seeing. i asked him what was his favorite sight was and he replied “right here right now”

I love New Haven and I love taking pictures! I also make a living as a photographer. For work, I mainly shoot people/events/weddings, and corporate and residential real estate/architecture. I also sell prints of my New Haven images, and licence them for web and print use.
