On Tuesday professors and students from New Haven’s Southern Connecticut State University, organized by the CSU-AAUP union, went to the state capitol to engage legislators in a discussion about what the possible cuts coming really mean for their ability to deliver education to the students served by the university. Southern, and the three other institutions that make up the Connecticut State University system are seen as universities of opportunity where cost is not as prohibitive as other options and where the bar to entry is such that a chance is given to some who might otherwise not be given a chance at a four year education. New Haven area professors, students and legislators all participated.
