I have been skateboarding on and off for
about 15 years and the skatepark inside Edgewood park on Whalley Ave. has been a big part of those 15 years. It is where I would spend a lot
of time with, and meet a lot of, my friends in High School and in my
early twenties. I still think of it as a main point for skateboarding
in New Haven county. The park has not seen much care in a long time.
Some have patched up cracks and wear with extra concrete. Bringing it in
from their own home construction projects. Somethings would not be useable without it.
In a way, that is why I like going
there. The pavement is super rough and there are cracks just about
everywhere. It is not easy to skate. I often compare it to being up
at bat in a baseball game with four bats in your hand. It is
difficult to even swing. But from a personal sense of nostalgia, it is a classic
Northeastern skate park. It is kind of beautiful, you can see the scars from harsh winters
and over a decade of wear, graffiti, paint, stickers, and makeshift obstacles. Here, check it out!
