100 Strangers

Paint The Town – Jeffrey Kerekes

  • What’s the name of the person in the picture? JD
  • Who is he/she? Painter/Neighbor
  • How did you meet? Walking on my way Downtown
  • What did you talk about? He has an MFA and loves street painting. He said he has done street painting in a lot of places and that the people who come by in New Haven are the best. He has been in New Haven for a year.
  • New photography technique? No.
  • Your approach style… I’m still working out how I want to approach these images of strangers.
  • An observation… He’s a good painter!

“I’m Here Everyday” – Jeffrey Kerekes

  • What’s the name of the person in the picture? Dennis
  • How did you meet? I met him on the New Haven Green
  • What did you talk about? We talked about the fact that is there every day and was interested in a copy of the photo. 
  • New photography technique? No.
  • Your approach style… I still love the 3/4 shot!
  • An observation… People continue to surprise me with their willingness to be photographed. I’ve since gone several days to find him with the print but we keep missing each other. I’ll keep trying until I deliver it.  I’ve met a lot of his friends in the mean time.

“Love Made Visible” – Clowning Around at CT Folk – Jeffrey Kerekes

  • What’s the name of the person in the picture? Jammie The Gentle Clown
  • Who is he/she? She celebrates every age with face painting, storytelling, puppets, magic and music.
  • How did you meet? I was leaving the CT Folk Festival and saw a woman wearing a polkadot dress with a polkadot umbrella and I knew I needed to take her picture. She was fiddling with something in her car when I said hello from a little bit away so as not to scare her. To my surprise, it was a clown!
  • What did you talk about? She has a son whom also takes lots of pictures (I took a bunch of her).
  • New photography technique? I tried a very shallow depth of field from far away but it was too shallow from that range and the image was not used (aka deleted).
  • Your approach style… I love 3/4 and head shots. Always the most intriguing.
  • An observation… On a cloudy day under an umbrella, there is not a lot of light.
